About Valapattanam

Located in Kannur District of Kerala State, Valapattanam is a small town and the smallest panchayat of the state. The location of this town is about 7 KM away from Kannur in its northern part. Valapattanam has lots of Muslim residents and is a place famous for communal harmony between the Hindus and the Muslims. The town is located on the shores of Valapattanam River.

History of Valapattanam

The town is famous for its timber trade and wood industry. Valapattanam Town was established by Vallabha II who was the ruler of Mooshika Dynasty. During 14th Century AD, Ruler of Ezhimala started residing at Valapattanam (erstwhile Baiapatanam) and became a place with immense political importance. Considered as an important tourist place of Kannur District, Valapattanam Administration is looked after by the Panchayat.
